Don’t Make the Mistake of Putting Off Replacing Your Air Filter…
If you are putting off replacing your air filter you might want to rethink that decision. Your air filter for your car is a lot like the air filter in your furnace or your air purifier. Just like the air in our homes and places of work need filtering from spores, dirt, pollen, and dust, so does your engine.
Your engine uses a lot of air, around 12,000 gallons of air for every gallon of gas. It is not unreasonable for your engine to filter 20,000+ gallons of air every single day!
Modern engines are precisely tuned machines. Your engine will add more or less gas depending on specific needs and inputs from sensors. If your air filter is dirty, it will make the gas sensors ineffective and too little gas will be added to your engine.
It seems like all you might be risking is lower ‘power’ from your engine… but that would be an error… Without the right amount of gas, your catalytic converter will burn out in time and your air filter is the starting point!
In case you were wondering, a catalytic converter replacement can cost up to $2,500! Yikes!!! We want to spare you from that cost, so it is better to simply make sure your air filter is clean.
Routine maintenance is the absolute best way to decrease your overall lifetime repair costs.
