When to Replace Wipers

Tips & Insigts

Your vehicle’s windshield wipers are super important, especially when it comes to the safety of your vehicle during the fall and winter. Now that we are officially in the fall season, we can expect the rainfall to start any time soon. With more rain comes the need for your trusty wipers to save the day. However, after a very warm summer and dry conditions, you won’t be surprised to find that your windshield wipers don’t work well when you first turn them on.

Over the summer, our wipers are exposed to higher temperatures which can cause the rubber to quickly dry out, crack, and fray. This reduces the effectiveness of the wipers and can make it difficult to see in a heavy rainstorm. Many drivers don’t know this, but you should actually be replacing your wipers every 6 to 12 months. The beginning of the fall season is a perfect time because chances are the summer ruined yours and you’ll need them desperately in the coming months.

If you need to replace your windshield wipers, you’ll notice one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Chattering noises when they are turned on
  • Wipers smear around the water instead of clearing it
  • Wipers are leaving streaks in certain areas
  • Wipers are skipping on your windshield
  • Wipers appear to be dry, cracked, or frayed when looking at them
  • Bent frames

These are all signs that it’s time for a wiper replacement. If you think you are due, we invite you to Victory Auto Service & Glass for quick service. Wiper replacement is relatively inexpensive and we can get you in and out in no time. Don’t risk being stuck in the rain without proper visibility – get your windshield wipers replaced if needed today!
